OUR HISTORY
CAFAYATE
Known for its impressive red rock formations, this small, isolated elevated valley was home to the pre-Hispanic Diaguita-Calchaquí indigenous people. Located 180 km south of the city of Salta, its unique characteristics not only ensure that we produce high-quality, healthy grapes, but we also interpret this special high-altitude valley to create iconic vintages, modern classics, and cutting-edge innovations. Its extreme desert climate, combined with poor soils, warm days and cool nights, little rain and abundant sunlight, makes it easy for us to practice integrated, sustainable and organic viticulture between 1,650 and 2,500 meters above sea level. It is worth noting the great thermal amplitude that allows our grapes to acquire a great concentration, resulting in wines.
Our Present
We are part of a generation of wineries that were born at the end of the 20th century with the transformation of the Argentine wine industry, the reconversion of the Salta wine industry and the expansion of Cafayate wines to world cups. With more than 20 years making wines, we embody the paradigm of today's Cafayateño wine: the fusion between permanent innovation and great respect for the identity and unmistakable character of our terroir. Under the leadership of Lucía Romero Marcuzzi (third generation in the industry) we are rewriting the legend of Cafayate.
LUCÍA ROMERO MARCUZZI
Director
Vintner, businesswoman, mother and third-generation vineyard owner, Lucía's future was mapped out when she took her first steps on her grandfather's farm. Born and raised in Salta, Lucía is a hands-on leader who has spearheaded the exports and product development of El Porvenir de Cafayate. With a Wine MBA from the Bordeaux Business School and passing with honors the demanding WSET Advanced Program, she has promoted the winery as its director since 2013, with the aim of continuing to publicize the new expressions of Cafayate.
Our Wines
Our vision, promoted by the vintner Lucía Romero Marcuzzi, respects tradition and terroir, deepening our entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, tirelessly pushing the limits to reveal new expressions of the high altitude harvests of the Cafayate Valley. Harvesting by hand on our own estate that is home to a diverse range of micro terroirs, the grapes are lovingly transported in 20kg boxes to the winery, where they undergo a double selection process, using gravity to maintain their maximum purity. By uniting the micro terroirs, this special climate, a totally sustainable philosophy and our experience in winemaking, our wines have a unique identity of the valley that we love so much. The result is a diverse portfolio spanning iconic vintages, modern classics, and innovative wines.
