Our icon wine comes after 12 months of rest in new French oak barrels and stored for 1 year in the silence and tranquility of our underground cellars until it reaches its bouquet.
Medalla Real was born in 1983 in honor of Francisco Garcia Huidobro, ancestor to the founding family of Vina Santa Rita and Marques de Casa Real, who established the first Mint in Chile. To commemorate the Bicentennial of this event, a medal was coined with his profile and the symbol of the Spanish royal crown. Trajectory and recognition of quality have been a fundamental part of this wines history, positioning it as one of the classic and representative brands of Vina Santa Rita.
The grapes are harvested during the last week of April. Small lots of grapes are separated so that they are not unique to each plot. The grapes are selected and cleaned in the Mesanina, and then the stainless steel standards are opened by the gravitational method, where the son is ground and then a cold maceration of 4 days at 10C is observed. The extraction management uses careful pumping to obtain soft tannins during alcoholic fermentation. Finally, the total maceration period is 30 days. The malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels.
